Antigua

Greetings!

For those of you who have been reading this newsletter for awhile, you will know that my favourite Caribbean destination is the island of Nevis. That said, I was recently the guest of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Board and Blue Waters Resort and Spa in Antigua and have to admit that this island is very special as well!

Nestled away on a private bay on Antigua's northwestern coast, Blue Waters Resort & Spa has been family-owned since it opened more than 40 years ago. The property has 85 luxury rooms, villas and suites on 14 acres of mature tropical gardens.

Just a 20 minute drive from the VC Bird International airport, you can be having lunch and enjoying these views very quickly after landing!

There are 4 bars and lounges on the property, my favourite was Veronica's located right by the main pool. The bartender Nairobys served drinks with a smile!

With numerous pools and easy access to the beach, there is no shortage of places to swim, read, eat and drink!

The property has several luxury villas of up to 6 bedrooms with private pools making it a perfect destination for multi-generational families or a group of friends. They also have a wonderful kids program for ages 4-12.

The island of Antigua boasts 365 beaches! We took a drive one day to explore several of the beaches and to also visit some other resorts on the island.

Blue Waters took us on a their private boat for an excursion to an uninhabited island with incredibly clear water!

It's not all tropical drinks with umbrella's at Blue Waters. The sommelier Jason treated us to a wine tasting one evening at The Reef restaurant overlooking the sunset.

I loved the feel of Blue Waters Resort & Spa. The property is nicely spread out with plenty of gorgeous plants providing privacy. The staff was really friendly and the resort doesn't feel too big or too small. I'd happily return to Antigua! Now is a great time to plan your winter getaway. Let me know if Blue Waters sounds like the right place for you and your family or friends!

FYI: There are no non-stop flights to Antigua from my home airport of Boston. For this trip I decided to take the 35 minute flight from the Worcester airport (6 minutes from my home) to JFK and spend the night at the TWA hotel located right at the terminal in NY. The hotel has a rooftop pool & bar overlooking the runway! Unfortunately, the night I was there coincided with wildfires in Quebec making the air quality terrible - but it didn't stop the people in my photo from swimming. The hotel is worth a visit for the nostalgia and fun factor and it certainly made it easy to get my 8AM flight.
